Murder Among Friends opens with a young woman fainting on the side of the road. Charlie, being Charlie, stops to help (and to offer tea, of course). The young woman recovers, heads off on a camping trip with her friends, and Charlie assumes that’s the end of it.
Then she gets the phone call. One of the friends is missing.
Five friends went into the woods. Only four came back.
It’s the perfect bridge from summer into fall — a woodsy, end-of-season mystery with real teeth under the cozy surface. If you like your small town mysteries with a slow reveal and a puzzle that turns out to be far more tangled than it first appears, this is a great place to spend a crisp evening.
When Something Not-Quite-Real Comes Knocking: A Grave Error
Once the leaves start turning, the stories get a little stranger. And A Grave Error is where “cozy” first brushes up against “creepy.”
Charlie is NOT a doctor. She is very clear about this. It doesn’t stop her customers from calling her in the middle of the night when there’s an emergency — and this particular emergency is a doozy. A young woman named Cyndi has been attacked. By, apparently, a gargoyle.
Except gargoyles aren’t real.
Right?
This one’s a short, standalone prequel novella, which makes it a lovely low-commitment way to meet Charlie for the first time — you can read it in an evening. (It’s also the book we hand out free to new readers, so if you’ve never tried the series, this is the easiest possible on-ramp.) Spooky-season atmosphere, a paranormal question mark, and a very grounded heroine insisting there’s a logical explanation. There always is. Probably.
The Halloween One: The Murder of Sleepy Hollow
Every fall reading list needs its Halloween centerpiece. This is ours.
Ike Krane’s parents had a wicked sense of humor when they named him, so he leaned all the way in and became a ghost hunter. Which is how he ends up in Redemption — and how Redemption ends up with the sound of a horse galloping through empty streets at night, when there’s no horse anywhere to be found.
Then a journalist accuses Ike of murder. Then Ike vanishes. Then the journalist turns up dead. And still, night after night, the galloping returns.

And then it’s late November, and Charlie has been invited to a potluck Thanksgiving feast, and naturally she decides to bring dessert. Homemade pies, obviously.
They look so good that two guests sneak a few bites before the meal.
And then they’re both dead.
Charlie didn’t poison the pies — but that is very much not how it looks. A Cornucopia of Murder is the Thanksgiving cozy mystery the season was made for: a full holiday table, a locked-room-style puzzle, and a heroine who has to clear her own name before the gravy’s cold. Set in the last days of September and the first of October — right as Redemption tips into full autumn — The Mysterious Case of the Missing House is the newest book in the series. Emily is facing a big decision about her career (and her love life) when a call comes in. A friend of Aunt Tilde’s can’t reach her house-sitting niece and is worried about her rose bushes. Simple enough: drive over, check on the niece, check on the roses.
Except the house is gone. In its place stands a fancy health club. And the niece is nowhere to be found.
